Sleep research shows that a 3 year old child requires the same amount of sleep as a 2 year old child, i.e. 11-12 hours a day including nap time in the afternoon.

How much sleep should a 4 year old get?

A 4 year old child is on the verge of needing less sleep than 11-12 hours a day. Ideally, a 4 year old child should still have 11-12 hours of sleep a day. But, if the 4 year old child is active, he or she may need 9-11 hours of sleep a day instead.
