What is sleep apnea?
Sleep apnea is a breathing disorder that
affects people while they sleep usually without them knowing
it.
Types of sleep apnea
There are three types of sleep apnea. The
three types of sleep apnea are classified according to their
causes. These types of sleep apnea are:
In central sleep apnea, the person with
central sleep apnea syndrome stops breathing during the
night because the brain fails to signal the chest muscles
to make breathing movements. This is the most uncommon type
of sleep apnea.
In obstructive sleep apnea, the person
with obstructive sleep apnea has a hard time sleeping
because he or she finds it difficult to breathe while
sleeping. Unlike, central sleep apnea, the person with
obstructive sleep apnea does not just stop breathing but
will struggle to breathe.
Mixed sleep apnea is a combination of
obstructive sleep apnea and central sleep apnea. The
obstructive sleep apnea component in a mixed sleep apnea
case is treated first. The treatment of obstructive sleep
apnea alone is usually enough to cure a person with mixed
sleep apnea.
